2. Use two or three small pieces. More is not better; bakhoor builds slowly. Wait until the smoke rises steadily.
3. Tie back the rest of your hair, so only the ends you are scenting are free. No loose strands, scarf edges or wide abaya sleeves hanging towards the burner.
4. Hold the ends above the smoke, not in it, for a few seconds per section, high enough that the hand holding them feels only mild warmth.
