Ramadan changes how fragrance is worn here: days are quieter and evenings are social, gatherings are indoors and close, and the whole month sits in cooler weather. It is oud and amber season, and it is the heaviest gifting season of the year.

Evenings are close quarters

A majlis is a small room with a lot of people in it. Something that projects hard is a decision everyone present is included in for the whole evening — this is the month for one spray of something rich rather than three of something loud.

Bakhoor and perfume are different things

Bakhoor scents a room and clothing; perfume scents you. The traditional pairing is bakhoor through the home before guests and a fragrance on skin — they layer rather than compete.

On alcohol in fragrance

Whether an alcohol-based perfume is appropriate while fasting is a question people answer for themselves and with their own scholars, and we are not the ones to rule on it. Plainly and factually: our eau de parfum is alcohol-based, as almost all eau de parfum is. Our bakhoor is not.
